WPC Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) at the 11th annual WPC (WPC) in La Crosse, Wisconsin April 8-10, 2010
This conference is an amazing opportunity to engage in discussion, learning, and transformative growth around issues of oppression, privilege, and justice. It is not a conference just for white people- it is a multi-racial group of people coming from all over the country.
The YLC provides youth-friendly and youth-specific workshops, caucuses, entertainment, and space that engage issues of white privilege, white supremacy, and oppression within the larger structure of the White Privilege Conference.
A team of facilitators provide a safe space, geared toward ALL youth, no matter what ethnic background, grades 9-12, who are seriously ready to engage issues of race, oppression, power & privilege and allied living. We address issues of heritage, racial identity, language, isms, labels, teamwork & strategies for community action and social change.
The first two days feature workshops and interactive activities, film, spoken word, Theatre of the Oppressed techniques, and small and large group discussions. On the third day youth will join the larger WPC conference and can choose to attend any of the full conference workshops and activities.
Students may register for college credit for their participation and outside work, which can be transferred to other colleges and Universities.
