A lot has gone down in the past couple of weeks with the City of Orlando officials and our Local Union 1365, so, I felt that an update is in order. If you haven't been following along up to this point please review the links below to bring yourself up to date.
With that said, the City originally stated that there was no way for them to meet thier budget without an "across the board cut" from all departments within the City. Now, there will be NO layoffs, there will be NO paycuts, there will be NO service reductions EXCEPT FOR FIRE. Out of the original 342 proposed layoffs it now comes down to just the 46 firfighters who will be effected and the City is still wanting paycuts and reductions in YOUR service above that. HOW DOES THIS EFFECT ME YOU MIGHT ASK... Fewer firefighters, no rescues and the closing of stations means fewer people to respond, fewer ADVANCE LIFE SUPPORT units to respond and increased response times to you when you need us the most. You never know what tomorrow will bring and you don't want to play russian rullet with your health or your safety.
One thing is for sure, the City is playing hardball because, for some reason, they have an axe to grind with us and our Union. Our Union has backed Mayor Dyer from the beginning and all through his ups and downs and still he wants to try and break us.
We are strong, Mayor. You will never break us. Remember one thing, win or lose this battle...we've still won.
