AMP is a nationwide program funded by the NSF since 1993 in an effort to increase the enrollment, retention, and graduation rate of underrepresented minority students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM disciplines. Temple joined the greater Philadelphia AMP program in 1994. The Philadelphia AMP is a partnership of nine of universities from the three adjoining states: New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
The student-centered AMP organization at Temple University is designed to develop the comprehensive strategies necessary to increase the number of minority students who successfully complete baccalaureates in the STEM fields. Our mission is realized by an active team of students and faculty who work together to help the students in all their endeavors in STEM education.
Students in the program are assisted by a wide group of faculty, graduate students and fellow students in all issues of academic and social concerns.
Each semester the program hosts meetings, seminars, workshops, and tutoring for all the members. We also have an AMP floor in the dorms, which provides the students with a stronger sense of community, an increased level of networking, group study sessions and peer mentoring.
