News:
Kwani? is currently working on a launch and events schedule for two editions of the next issue, Kwani? 05 parts 1&2, and another very special addition, ‘Kenya Burning’, which is a photo-book published in collaboration with The GoDown Arts Centre and based on an exhibition by the same name, curated by the GoDown and displayed there in April 2008.

Both these publications are a narrative, on the one hand- and a visual on the other, documentation of the Kenya that was and the Kenya that is in light of the social, economic and political crisis that soon followed the December 2007 General Election in Kenya.

This is a topic that has at times has us paralysed, but mostly, has given us a great imperative. As you all know, our last released was of a Kwani-ni? , our mini-pocket series, titled "After The Vote" in May 2008. It featured non fiction stories by five writers - Alison Ojany Owuor, Andia Kisia, Tony Mochama, Simiyu Barasa and Kalundi Serumaga - who are members of the coalition. Our recent publications round up our focus on this topic, although not enouch can really ever be produced.

After publication of these two ( or 3, if you were to be specific on twin editions!) we will be releasing a few more titles ; 'The True Story of David Munyakei', a poetry anthology and a number of kwani-nis. We will then go back to the drawing board for Kwani? 06, our fiction issue from a new demographic, the under-30's. Fiction really is our first love, and as lovers go, has become jealous of our non-fiction focus over the last couple of editions. We intend to honour this love with a funkdified homage. Stay tuned!
