The team was the idea of a UAE national who whilst studying in the USA became a fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Shortly after he started studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Prof. Nelson Monterio Jr. in his San Diego Academy and upon finishing his studies in the USA, he convinced Prof. Nelson Monterio to move to Abu Dhabi, and hence Abu Dhabi Combat Team was born. The United Arab Emirates won the Emirates Asian Super Cup Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, held in Abu Dhabi, in the Arab country, on 14 & 15 DECEMBER 2007. In the competition, athletes from the Emirates won four gold, three silver and seven bronze medals.

Jordan ranked second, with three gold, four silver and seven bronze medals, and Brazilian ranked third, with three gold, two silver and seven bronze medals. The Cup brought together 145 competitors from 20 different countries.

The competition was held in the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC), where Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is taught, as well as other combat sports. The Cup was sponsored by sheikh Zayed Bin Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and promoted by the Armed Forces Officers Club and the ADCC. The competition was organised by the Brazilian Carlão Santos, who once held the title of Jiu-Jitsu champion of Brazil, and works with the sport in the Emirates.
