In this era of sky-rocketing tuition and shrinking academic budgets, it's time for the University of Washington's President Mark Emmert to, at last, rise to the expectations of his position, follow in the footsteps of his peers, respect the memory of those who took the helm before him, do the honorable thing, and take a sizable and symbolic pay cut immediately.
In our current economy, Mr. Emmert's million-dollar, taxpayer/student financed salary is just far too high.
{Particularly in light of President Emmert's seemingly superhuman ability to generate significant additional side income in the private sector whilst attending to his myriad of responsibilities as President of the UW at the very same time (please see links below)}.
Challenging times such as these demand creativity and sacrifice. And it is the responsibility of our leaders to show us the way.
As President Emmert has not.
