- What does it mean to work as an artist in an unjust society? What should be the role of an art `appreciator’/`consumer’ in a commodity fetish culture? What does it mean to be `culturally’ correct? What does culture do to us? What is to be done with `culture’? What should be the role of a cultural activist in a discriminative, culture biased, exploitative, patriarchal, capitalist state and society? And what is the task of `cultural studies’ in contemporary Bangladesh and the world?
These are some of the questions which has been the factor made us a collective to think and act together, for a praxis of art and culture.
The school is itself a result of praxis as it originates as a collective initiative by the fellow members and friends of the musical band LEELA.
LEELA School has a mandate to intervene in the current cultural trend and processes. Culture as a whole. Political economy of culture, Culture of production , distribution and consumption, culture of power practice, culture of living and lifestyles, culture of oppression and resistance. Culture of war and peace. Culture of art and culture itself.
Through reading, writing, listening, watching, interactive and collective learning, organizing, demonstrating, we work for radical justice causes including gender, economy, ecology, color and CULTURE.
We organize documentations, study circles, re-search, seminars, symposiums, conferences, capacity building programs, multimedia (print, audio and video) productions etc. LEELA School publishes LEELA MAGAZINE periodically.
We work in solidarity with the fellow groups and individuals and initiatives, locally as well as globally.
