An experimental group (of sorts) to leverage those in Auckland who wish to share just a slice of their connectivity for the greater good.
This group has been created for a number of reasons. About 2 years ago we came across the Meraki equipment as part of some research we were doing and were excited by the possibilities it presented.
Since that time, Meraki has become more 'mainstream' and there are a number of groups looking at the technology for similar projects. It was a topic of discussion at the 2008 FooCamp in Warkworth, NZ (http://www.drury.net.nz/2008/02/03/best-of-foo/). There is also a Wellington based group called TheFreeNet http://groups.google.com/group/ftnaotearoa?hl=en
I want to be clear that I don’t want to splinter support for open access wireless in New Zealand, so this group is intended as a starting point for discussion – let’s see where we can take it.
