One of us will reply to you shortly by phone for a talk and to share more details.
We're asking Cal to reconsider this race because the issues we're facing right now are too important to be left to a career politician like Richard Burr. Richard Burr has had 16 years in Congress to show us where he stands -- with the corporate special interests that fund his campaigns, not the people of North Carolina.
We're asking for your commitment now; to forge a partnership based on your involvement at the inception of this campaign. We took the first step in May-- but our next step together is the biggest one of all. Drop us a reply so we can get to work making the case that Cal Cunningham is the only way to beat Burr in 2010.
Thank you for your incredible continued support!
The Bio
Cal Cunningham's commitment to public service was nurtured from an early age. He was both Student Body President and, later, Chief Justice of the Student Supreme Court at UNC-Chapel Hill. He holds both a J.D. from UNC - Chapel Hill, a Master of Science from the London School of Economics.
After receiving his law degree, Cal became the youngest member of the N.C. Legislature, serving as a State Senator in the 23rd District, representing Davidson, Rowan and Iredell counties.
In the Senate, he served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and on the Education Appropriations, Policy and Joint Oversight Committees. Cunningham worked tirelessly on legislation that would impact constituents across North Carolina, such as the patient’s bill of rights, the clean smokestacks bill, class size reductions and preservation of farmland. These accomplishments continue to make significant, palpable impacts on families across the state.
After leaving the Senate, Cunningham was commissioned in the Army Reserves, Judge Advocate General's Corps and has been mobilized twice - once to Fort Bragg, where he served as a federal prosecutor, and once to Iraq.
In 2007, Cunningham served his tour of duty with the XVIII Airborne Corps as the senior trial counsel, Multi-National Corps Iraq. In Iraq, he pioneered an effort with the U.S. Department of Justice to prosecute felony contractor misconduct and worked with the Major Procurement Fraud Task Force. He was lead counsel in the first court-martial of a contractor/civilian under the Uniform Code of Military Justice since 1968. For his service in Iraq, Cunningham was awarded the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award and the Bronze Star Medal.
Since returning from his tours of duty, Cunningham has worked as an attorney with Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP in Winston-Salem, displaying his broad legal and policy knowledge on issues such as family law, environmental law, federal criminal prosecution and more. He is currently exploring a possible 2010 U.S. Senate race.
