A serious gripe with Lu's Pharmacy:

Vancouver's new Lu's: A Pharmacy for Women is run by the Vancouver Women's Health Collective who have a "women-born-women-only" policy. This means that they will not provide services to women who were assigned male or intersexed at birth. Apparently baby genitals makes transsexual and intersexed women second-class citizens.

July 8th, 2009: Some group members will be seeking legal advice through the BC Human Rights Coalition (www.bchrcoalition.org) and UBC's LSLAP (www.lslap.bc.ca/main) on Monday and Tuesday (July 13th and 14th). Will be looking into lawsuits and other legal options.

July 16th: The Femininjas attempt to foster policy change through dialogue rather than legal action. To this end, we posted an open letter to Lu's and the VWHC to help open the channels of communication: http://tinyurl.com/lla64b

July 22: Femininjas hold their first formal dialogue with the Vancouver Women's Health Collective. Kim Nixon, as well as representatives from Qmmunity, WISH, Battered Women's Support Services, RainCity Housing, PRISM, Women Against Violence Against Women and Dancing to Eagle also present.

July 31st: Qmunity confirms that they are willing to train the staff at Lu's if they feel that they do not have expertise in transgender issues.

September 21st: Second round of talks pushed back to mid-October. This round of talks is slated to be smaller ad with a set agenda.

October 1st: Lu's invited two trans women to their Opening Gala, though no change has yet been made in correcting their policy
