Since 2001, Silka has lived in Hilo, Hawaii. In tremendous pain, she was taken into a hospital on December 6th. At that point, she was still conscious and able to walk. Since then the state of her health has become steadily worse. Silka became paralyzed, her lungs collapsed and her breathing broke down, and on Christmas Day 2008, she lapsed into a coma.

As of May 1st, Silka's American health insurance ceased to pay for her care.

There is still a substantial hospital bill and part of the transportation costs that were covered by personal loans that family members have taken on and will need to be repayed so donations are still very helpful and needed. (read less)
