Hockey Fans say NO to VERSUS for snubbing Canes/Thrashers/Ducks
Information
Category:
Sports & Recreation -
Description:
VERSUS recently released its 54-game NHL schedule of nationally televised games, and of the 24 US teams, three (Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, and Atlanta Thrashers) were entirely left off the schedule -- not one of the 108 slots. This group will attempt to organize feedback to VERSUS and the NHL about this snub. Potential actions may include supporting Direct TV in its announcement that its carry of VERSUS may end soon.

VERSUS recently released its 54-game NHL schedule of nationally televised games, and of the 24 US teams, three (Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, and Atlanta Thrashers) were entirely left off the schedule -- not one of the 108 slots. Meanwhile, the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins all make a season-high eight appearances on the network, while the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild will each appear seven times this season.
Versus crows "Additionally, VERSUS aired the highest-rated Conference Semifinal and Conference Final rounds on cable in more than a decade." yet they left the Carolina Hurricanes, who played in both those rounds, entirely off the schedule.

While the rest of the hockey world was debating the merits of the Versus 2009-10 NHL broadcast schedule, Bruce Ciskie of FanHouse noted that DirecTV was communicating with its subscribers that its contract with Versus was up on Aug. 31 and if no new deal was in place "Versus may be removed from DIRECTV."
