The Office of Judicial Affairs strives to create a safe and intellectually challenging setting for UCSB students to live and learn, and to maintain an environment conducive to UCSB's principles of "Scholarship, Leadership, and Citizenship." We do this by:
1. Publishing and enforcing the UCSB Campus Regulations
2. Administering the campus judicial process
3. Serving as the main reporting point for hate crimes and incidents
4. Educating the campus community about academic integrity and responsible conduct
5. Providing information and assistance to students regarding student rights and grievance procedures
The Office of Judicial Affairs is authorized to establish and administer the "Student Conduct Policies and Procedures" for UCSB campus.
The purpose of the office is to maintain the general welfare of the university community. The university strives to make the campus community a place of study, work, and residence where people are treated, and treat one another, with respect and courtesy. The university views the student conduct process as a learning experience that can result in growth and personal understanding of one’s responsibilities and privileges within both the university community and the greater community.
This year, the Office of Judicial Affairs (OJA) has two DEDICATED interns (Kenisha Day and Doug Wagoner) who are continuing and contributing to keeping UCSB a safe place. Through awareness programs, a Peer Education Program, and innovative and student-friendly events regarding judicial matters, the Office of Judicial Affairs, during the 2009-2010 academic year, will be educating the UCSB campus about student conduct policies and hate crime prevention and reporting.
