I have created this group as a local photographer with a passion for animals to show images of the lives of these poor animals that have been dumped by their owners, and the offspring they produce...
There are many, many "cat colonies" throughout Nova Scotia. (A cat colony is a group of cats without owners that have formed a community of sorts around a common food source. Some were once pets, while others have been born as a part of the colony and turn feral after a few weeks without human contact.) The best way to help is to find people to act as caretakers for these colonies, and to provide food, shelter, and spay/neuter operations for these cats, as well as removing any tame cats and kittens to find them forever-homes.
Some rescue groups throughout the province --- like PET Projects (www.petprojects.ca) of Shelburne County --- are doing what they can to help one animal at a time. But, THEY CAN'T DO THIS ON THEIR OWN! They are not government funded and are busy trying to educate, support pet owners in need, and provided care and medical treatment to homeless animals waiting to be adopted.
With their limited energy and funding, we all need to work together, partnering with them to make a difference so these animals do not fall though the cracks!
This is a huge problem that exists throughout our province. I am asking that if you are a professional photographer or just someone that loves to take photos, please get out there and capture these cats that have to live day-by-day like this; a lot don't even make it though the winter --- they freeze or starve to death...
People need to see a visual of what is happening to these poor animals and how they suffer. Please speak though your photography and give these animals a voice...They need you !!
