- 29th June: Day 0 We have arrived in Edinburgh. It took 4 and a half hours from London by train. We are leaving our hostel at 6am tomorrow and heading South into the unknown.
Day 1: We left Edinburgh at 6:40 in the pouring rain. It cleared up about 9am. We have seen many road kill and lots of rubbish thrown from cars. The valleys are breath taking. we ended our day in Galashiles after walking 34 miles. We're in pain but still hope for similar progress tomorow, we shall see!
Day 2: Alan awoke with a swollen, red and painfull ankle. We left the hotel at 8:30am to start the 2nd length of our journey. With in an hour Alan collapsed on the pavement in severe pain, an ambulance was called and took him to hospital. After several examinations it come to light that the day before Alan had walked over 11 miles with a ligament sprain. Alan's journey is over but Jakes will continue tomorow..
Alan will stay and have his adventure whilst he recovers but what an amazing achevement to walk over 34 miles in one day.
Thank you Gavin. Hello Alan here to take over the blogging. I feel like i have been away for weeks. Everyone has the right to say "i told you so" because it is true you did. The day of walking i did have in Scotland though was truly one of the most painfully rewarding days of my life. I have returned home feeling as if i have been away for weeks. We have already raised a great sum of money for charity, i gave it every last once of energy i had until i litterally collaspsed. Jacob is now doing the same and continues the journey with the same determination!
July 2nd, Day 3: Alan waved goodbye to Jacob as he continued his journey from where we left it in a beautiful village called Melrose. Jake left around 8am and had already achieved a good 20 miles by lunch time and was close to a town called Kelso. The same day Jake was aiming to walk atleast another 15 miles to the town of Wooler... Did he make it?
July 3rd, day 4: Jacob made it to Wooler and beyond! At about 3pm today he was only about 9 miles out of Newcastle. He is making amazingly fast progress and at this rate will be in London alot sooner than we imagine possible!
July 4th/5th, day 5/6: "Alan, sorry - my phone is now dead, and the internet is precarious. My foot has been playing up so I took a day rest in Newcastle, but fear not today I have been walking again, I got just North of Darlington but the weather has been bad here (remember the rain we were talking about!). So I had to stop when I found myself shivering under a tree. I walked through a town called 'Pity Me' just outside Durham and I stood on the Angel of the North! I keep thinking how you would have liked it (including the dead rabbit on the A 167. How's the foot?"
July 8th, Day 9: Jake made it to Nottingham on his Birthday! WOOP! So luckily he did not have to spend it on his own. If you want any gaps filling in (like day 7 & 8) you'll have to ask Jake coz i dunno! haha. He is predicting to reach London for the weekend!!! AWESOME!
July 12th, day 13. JAKE made it to the Houses of Parliment around 18:15 on saturday 12th July. He had walked roughly 50 miles on that final day. Considering the challenge he had just suceeded in he looked suprisingly well and healthy. Taking off the days of rest (and the day of looking after me in hospital) Jake did the walk in 11 days! This is incredible and definately worth a few more quid in sponsorship! WELL DONE JAKE! YOU'RE AN INSPIRATION :)
