- Description:
- This group is for those of you attending (or thinking about attending) the 2008 Computers & Writing conference in Athens, GA. We encourage you to sign-up for the Graduate Research Network (GRN), a forum for discussing research projects and work in progress related to Computers & Writing (C&W). The 9th C&W GRN is an all-day pre-conference event that takes place on May 22, 2008, and it is open and free of charge to all registered conference participants. Anyone interested or involved in graduate education and scholarship should consider participating in this important event.
What happens at the GRN?
The morning consists of roundtable discussions, by grouping those with similar interests with discussion leaders who facilitate conversations and offer suggestions for developing your projects and determining suitable venues for publication. The GRN welcomes those pursuing work at any stage, from those just beginning to consider ideas to those whose projects are ready to pursue publication.
After lunch, Cheryl Ball will lead a job market workshop that focuses on finding and getting a job in the field of computers and writing (and its related fields of composition, rhetoric, and technical/professional communication). This afternoon session will consist of roundtable discussions with table moderators. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of, get advice from, and hear stories about the job market from new and established faculty in the field.
Why register for the GRN?
*The opportunity to network in this way with so many other new and established scholars in the field is invaluable to any researcher or instructor of computers and composition.
*For those of you not currently scheduled to present at C&W, this is an opportunity to get your name on the GRN program.
*If you are accepted as a "presenter" at either/both the GRN and the Computers and Writing Conference, you may be eligible to apply for a grant from the CW/GRN Travel Grant Fund! (Follow the link from the GRN page for more information.)
*The people who tend to attend are generally smart, nice, and fun people.
*Attendees have the chance to win prizes!
Want to register?
*Go to the 2008 GRN website: http://class.GeorgiaSouthern.edu/writling/GRN/2008/
*Complete and submit the online submission form to let us know you're attending, what your interest areas are, and a 100-200 word abstract of the project you'd like to discuss. It could be the paper you plan to present at the conference, or you could obtain feedback on a different work-in-progress.
The deadline for submissions is May 1, but we would appreciate early submissions! If you would like to serve as a discussion leader, you can also use the online submission form.
