On Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 11 p.m. the Atlanta Police Department raided the Eagle Atlanta. All patrons were forced to lay on the ground and were subject to searches, some multiple- a clear violation of 4th & 14th Amendment rights.
Patrons were allowed to leave the venue only after a background check had been completed. Some patrons waited on the floor for over an hour to be cleared for release.
There have been numerous reports of random handcuffing of patrons while on the floor and derogatory homophobic comments. These complaints have created a huge public outcry for answers and APD LGBT Liaison Officer Danni Harris became involved in the call for an investigation.
Four employees were arrested under charges of operating without a license and four for lack of an adult dancing permit.
With the enormous outpour of community support, I have created this group to allow people the platform to discuss what happened, share their experiences of that evening, and KEEP THIS STORY ALIVE so we, as a community, get answers to what went on that night and why it's important we stand in solidarity with Eagle Atlanta. This group is in no official way connected to Eagle Atlanta.
In a matter of days, the story has made way to the following media outlets: Southern Voice, Atlanta Progressive News, CNN, The Advocate, The London Guardian, perezhilton.com, WSBTV (Channel 2), Channel 11 Alive, FOX 5 News & NPR.
