It is 30 years since the very first spam message was sent via the internet. In the last three decades our inboxes have been filled with junk about fake Rolexes, bogus weight-loss schemes, scam lottery notifications, and ways to increase the size of our body parts.
However, spam only works because there are people out there who actually *buy* goods advertised via junk email. IT security firm Sophos reports that 11% of people admit to having bought products marketed via spam.
