9 OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

In this newsletter: London’s Best Wine Bars, including artisan&vine; The Sparkling Wine Challenge and Indoor Picnics!

LONDON’S BEST WINE BARS FOR WINE TASTING, TAKE HOME WINE AND NATURAL WINE – ARTISAN&VINE IS THERE!
• Time Out have recently published their iconic Eating & Drinking Guide for 2010.
• We were stoked to be included in their “Best Wine Bars List” for Best Wine Bars for: Wine Tasting, Take Home Wine and Natural Wine.
• We were also delighted that Time Out’s review of 2009 stated that "the biggest new story this year has been the growth of the 'natural' wine bar" and that in 2008, "the capital sees the opening of its first wine bar to specialise in organic and biodynamically produced wines, Artisan & Vine"

SPARKLING WINE CHALLENGE – ENGLAND TAKES ON THE WORLD, AND WINS!
• This Wednesday our weekly wine tasting took the form of a Sparkling Wine Challenge.
• Participants tasted blind and evaluated wines on appearance, aroma, taste & bubbles (size, persistence, integration).
• Participants were also asked to nominate which countries they thought the wines came from.
• There were 6 wines on tasting: 3 English, 1 Champagne, 1 Prosecco and 1 Austrian sparkling wine.
• Overall: the English wines scored highest. Scandalously, the Champagne scored lowest of all wines!
• The highest scoring wine was Ridgeview’s Knightsbridge, an amazing Blanc de Noir, which also had the highest percentage of tasters believing it was the Champagne on tasting.
• The second highest scoring wine was Meinklang’s Austrian sparkling pinot noir, a rose sparkling, which was also the cheapest wine on tasting.
• The ‘most English’ tasting wine, according to tasters, was Camel Valley’s sparkling rose.
• For more information on upcoming wine tastings at artisan&vine: http://artisanandvine.com/Wine-tasting

REGIONAL FRANCE – MASTERING THE WINE LIST WINE TASTING, 14 OCTOBER
• A lot of the times when I go out with friends, I’m nominated to choose the wines for the evening. I have to confess (read in hushed voice)– I don’t know all of the wines in the world.
• What I do know is a lot of wine regions, particularly those in France, and for me, that’s a really great way to get yourself beyond the big hype brands & to begin to master the wine list.
• This week we’ll explore lesser known grapes in lesser known regions, which often means less marked up prices! (The Austrian sparkling pinot noir from last week’s tasting is a classic eg)
• Since our wine tastings have been available to buy online, they are selling faster so get in now & join in one of our handiest tastings yet!
• Tickets are £14/person when bought in advance: http://artisanandvine.com/store/

INDOOR PICNICS AT ARTISAN&VINE
• With the turn in the weather, lots of our customers have been taking their socialising indoors.
• This doesn’t mean you need to rush clean your house, beg your flatmates or family for use of the living room, or get that extension built.
• At artisan&vine, you can BYOF (Bring Your Own Food) and have a picnic in our space!
• In this last week we’ve welcomed groups with their supermarket shopping bags, boxes of fish & chips and piles of pizza.
• There’s a plateage of £2.50/person for cutlery, plates and cleaning.
• A great relaxed way to spend a week end or evening.
