L'Université d'Ottawa rédige présentement un Code de conduite non-scolaire qui vise les étudiants et qui porte atteinte aux droits à la liberté d'expression, de mobilisation et d'assemblée sur le campus. Le document (http://www.gsaed.ca/docs/bulletin/code_de_conduite.pdf) impose des sanctions scolaires graves (suspension à durée indéterminée, révocation de bourses et de prix, mesures discrétionnaires, etc.) pour des comportements hors du contexte scolaire.
Le texte pourrait de plus être utilisé pour faire taire les critiques contre l'Université d'Ottawa ou même interdire des moyens de pression légaux tels la grève et autres regroupements légitimes. De plus, le processus prévu par le Code pour juger des supposés "délits" de même que le processus d'appel ne sont ni impartiaux ni transparents: par exemple, l'administration se donne un an pour déposer une plainte et les motifs d'appel sont extrêmement limités. La liberté des étudiants est donc menacée. De plus, le Code maintient les étudiants dans un état de subordination face à la communauté universitaire. Enfin, le processus d'approbation pour ce Code s'enclenche au moment où l'année universitaire se termine, lorsque la majeure partie de la communauté universitaire est absente du campus.
Nous vous demandons donc de prendre part à la mobilisation de ces façons:

2) Dire à collègues et amies, amis de joindre ce groupe et signer la pétition;
3) Envoyer une lettre de protestation à la secrétaire de l'Université, Madame Pamela Harrod (secruniv@uottawa.ca) et au recteur de l'Université d'Ottawa, Monsieur Gilles Patry (patry@uottawa.ca).

The University of Ottawa is drafting a non-academic Code of conduct which targets students and their rights to freedom of expression, of mobilisation and of assembly on campus. The document (available on http://www.gsaed.ca/docs/bulletin/code_of_conduct.pdf) imposes harsh academic sanctions (indeterminate suspension, revocation of financial aid and awards, discretionary sanctions, etc.) for behavior not related to academics.
The Code could be used to silence critics of the administration or to forbid lawful actions, such as a strike and other legitimate means of protest. Moreover, the process defined by the Code to judge so-called "offences" and the appeal process are not impartial and transparent. For instance, the administration gives itself a full year to file a complaint, and conditions for appeal are very limited. Students' freedoms are therefore threatened. Moreover, the Code maintains students in a state of subordination to the rest of the university community. And finally, the approval process for this document is starting at the end of the school year, when the majority of the university community is leaving campus.
We are therefore asking you to take part in the mobilisation in the following ways:
