- ***PRESIDENTS REPORT***
With Pascha approaching, I pray that you and your families are well and that you are attending as many church services as you can!
A few of our youth have recently attended the ACOY Sydney Retreat and David’s review in this newsletter will show that it was well worth the trip down to NSW – a city full of yellow number plates, yummy Arabic sweets and plenty of sites to see! We hope that later in the year, in November, you will join us in the great city of Melbourne.
For the coming months, we have a few activities planned with many to arise throughout the coming weeks – please make sure you are subscribed to this newsletter via email to stay updated on recent changes and new events (to do this please contact me).
Our Annual Church Dinner Party is approaching along with some projects we want to work on together as SPOYS ☺
I would like to encourage anyone that is interested in helping us and joining in with activities to contact myself or one of our SPOYS representatives, as we would love to have you.
I hope you have a blessed Pascha and that God is in your hearts and is present in all you say and do.
God Bless,
Michael Khouri
President

ACOY SYDNEY RETREAT
Did you know that in 48 hours it’s possible to become closer to God, revitalise your faith, make lasting friendships, sightsee, have the time of your life as well as do the dabke over and over again? As unbelievable as it sounds, this is the experience offered at ACOY Retreats. On the 20th of March, 7 youth and young adults from our Parish flew down to Sydney to enjoy the first retreat for 2010 called ‘Deny, Take up and Follow Me...’. On the 22nd of March they arrived back in Brisbane with a deeper faith, new friends, reenergised for our mission in Brisbane and excited about the next retreat in November.
The weekend was first and foremost, in the words of Richard Khouri, “an amazing spiritual experience”. In addition to various talks, there were services involving the whole congregation and Open Forums, which provide a fantastic opportunity to ask questions about our faith. One attendee said, “I felt really challenged to stop living a luke-warm Orthodox Christian life, but to take the steps to start living my faith more seriously NOW, not tomorrow.”
In addition to the spiritual activities, on every SPOYS retreat there is always plenty of time for games, dabke and getting to know Orthodox youth from all over Australia. About this, Justin Khouri said, “I think it’s awesome that it brings the youth of different States together and allows us to interact through discussions and other activities.” In addition to being great socially, it is also inspirational. Daniela Novic said, “I felt really encouraged to see so many Orthodox youth who love God with all their hearts and weren't ashamed to be seen as fools by others, in order to live a life which glorifies God.”
Everyone from Brisbane who has gone on an ACOY retreat has come with so many positive things to say. The sole complaint is that it only last for a weekend! So make sure you keep your ears tuned for information about the Melbourne retreat in November for another ACOY retreat that is not to be missed.

BOWLING DAY 2010

…of youth that St Paul's Antiochian Orthodox Church has.
On Sunday February 28, SPOYS got together for the much-anticipated event of the year so far. The day was aimed to have everyone get together in a casual environment outside the church and have fun with a bit of competition at AMF Greenslopes Lanes.
And so it began, everyone was placed in a team, bowling shoes put on and the first scores in place. By the time the first game was done, everyone had grumbling tummy's ready for food!!!! Back to the healthy competition, everyone tried really hard to beat Audina........and they succeeded!!!
Big kids and small kids alike made it a great day with their enthusiasm and participation especially in the arcade room! In all, the bowling was a wonderful success and enjoyed by all!!
