- 5.7.09--Pitzer senior, Austin Brawner, has received a Fulbright scholarship for 2009-10 to teach English in Macau. Austin majors in Economics and studied abroad in Pitzer in Italy. He is the first Pitzer student to receive a Fulbright scholarship to Macau. This makes 14 Fulbrights this year so far!
4.27.09--Pitzer College senior Francine Mireles has received a 2009-2010 Fulbright scholarship to China. She will spend her Fulbright year researching her project, Changing Xiào: Filial Piety and Healthcare of Elderly Women in China. Francine is also the winner of a scholarship to participate in the 2009 summer school program at the Hyogo Earthquake Memorial Research Institute for the 21st Century in Kobe, Japan. Francine majors in East Asian culture and studied abroad in Pitzer in China and Pitzer Summer Study in Japan. Congratulations Francine!
4.24.09--Pitzer senior Brian Dolphin has been awarded a 2009-2010 Fulbright Fellowship to India to research his project Nada Brahma: The Philosophy of Hindustani Music. Earlier in the semester Brian received news that he also won a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship.
4.20.09-- Pitzer senior Austin Brawner ’09 has won a Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) award for 2009-2010. The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program aims to improve foreign language education in Japan and to encourage international exchange by fostering ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth. Austin is an Economics major and studied abroad with Pitzer in Italy.
Francine Mireles ’09 has won a scholarship to participate in the 2009 summer school program at the Hyogo Earthquake Memorial Research Institute for the 21st Century in Kobe, Japan. The summer program will focus on the role of local governments and citizens toward the formation of a framework of cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region around issues of Human Security and Multicultural Symbiosis. Francine is an East Asian Culture major and she studied abroad in Pitzer in China and Pitzer Summer Study in Japan.
Melanie Gularte ’10 has been named a Robert Day Scholar for 2009-2010. The Robert Day Scholars Program, started in 2008, sponsors fellowships for students who pursue coursework combining economics, accounting, finance and leadership studies. Melanie is an economics major and the first Pitzer student to receive this honor.
4.14.09--Roxanne Cruz-de Hoyos ’09 has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Nepal.
4.9.09-- Pitzer junior Allen Chen has been named a 2009 Barry M. Goldwater Scholar. The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship was established by the U.S. Congress in order to provide scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in science, mathematics, and engineering. It is widely considered the most prestigious award in the U.S. conferred upon undergraduates studying the sciences.
4.8.09--Pitzer senior Owen Brewer received very good news this week from three award programs. He won a Fulbright to teach English in Taiwan; won the prestigious Japan Exchange and Teaching Program Award (JET), and he was awarded a Princeton in Asia grant. Great job Owen!
4.1.09--Two more Fulbright Fellowship winners! Congratulations to Admission Fellow Jason Morales '09 and Joshua Lo '09. Grand total is now 9 Fulbrights.
