- VAT is currently charged at the highest rate (15%) for ebooks and audiobooks, whereas paperbooks are zero rated for VAT. Given the immense benefits that these technologies provide for those that would otherwise be excluded, it is time that this policy was reconsidered.
To help the government along, there is an open petition on the No10 website calling for VAT on these items to be reduced to 5% (as the EU has recommended). If you are a British citizen, please add your name to the petition and encourage as many people as possible to sign. The closing date for the petition is 20 November 2009.
