When Boris announced that you we're no longer allowed to drink on public transport in London from the 1st June, a party was held on the Saturday 31st of May which involved some quantities of alcohol celebrating people's freedom to drink. The word spread and the people came and "flash-mobed" the tube.
There was a great response to this random fun and extensive coverage in the press and another group looks to be continuing in the spirit of summer fun http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=18929661548
Some met at Westminster station on the Eastbound platform at 1730hrs on the 31st May 2008 and took the first circle line train arriving (according to station clocks)towards Liverpool street and headed to the back carriage or as it turned out half the tube trains.
This was a party and people brought musical instruments, bongos, guitars etc. adding a great vibe and generally the majority behaved themselves. There were problems as there always are and if there are events in the future keep in mind the responsibilities of the police and emergency services and thank them for the amazing job they do.
"We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;—
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems."
Music and Moonlight: Arthur William Edgar O'Shaughnessy
The rest is history!
