All great bands have recorded BBC sesions at some point, and The Fleas, whilst remaining exceptional, are now no exception. We recorded excellent acoustic versions of Mad At You and Something Or Nothing, as well as a near coherent interview with the lovely Linda Serck on the mighty BBC Berkshire's The Session. It's been saved for posterity here http://feeds.artistdata.com/bit11AkKF after (surely) breaking all records for BBC iPlayer's Listen Again last week.
We're finishing off our EP in the next few weeks, getting ourselves organised again and brewing some new tunes.
No gigs for a while though, but like the baby Eccleston Flea due to hatch in May, we'll be out in the world, kicking and screaming come Summer.
Rock on Tommy
Thanks all you Fleas Fans who tracked way out East to the Roadhouse in Canning Town the other weekend... what a bizarre place! The Fleas played another well-received tight set, despite having no soundcheck having been stuck in a big dirty traffic jam on the A13 on the wayto the venue (Mannie's map reading saved the day!) and Nigel's footswitches shorting. All credit to the sound-guy and to the promoter who had layed on plenty of food and beer for us backstage. Big up too for King of Conspiracy, this astonishing French band also on the bill... amazing!
The Fleas saw 2009 in with fandabidozi gigs at The Fly in Holborn, two headline nights at the expensively-beered Cobden Club in Notting Hill and a great night at The Fiddler’s Elbow, an amazing spit & sawdust venue in Camden with a large, very appreciative crowd and fantastic atmosphere. Thanks to Sugarmama and Yo Yo Yo Litvinenko for a great line-up there.
Coming up are more gigs, finishing touches to the new recordings, a BBC radio session and in March the next round of Live Unsigned at the Beck Theatre in Hayes. Can you believe... The Fleas still unsigned!
We’ll let you know about the (still unconfirmed) upcoming gigs, but until then keep hopping with The Fleas by hitting our myspace site www.myspace.com/thefleasplease , check out Malc’s video for Something Or Nothing on YouTube, hear our songs on iTunes and let your Facebook friends know about us... encourage them to join the group!
Keep itchin’ Fleas Fans...
It's 2009 and we're starting off the year with a brisk four London gigs:
6th January at The Fly
15th January at The Cobden Club
12th February at The Cobden Club
26th February at The Fiddlers Elbow
See you there.
After Hamswell Festival in August, which was brilliant, we've had a bit of a break and are only now back together after a whole bunch of decadent holidaying and bacchic pleasures.
As we regretfully say goodbye to Rico, enter our new lead guitarist, Nigel Russell. He's rather good.
Come and watch the new lineup play out for the first time at The Little House on October 31st. This is an old school building which Mohican Records has been slowly refurbishing as a live venue over the past three years.
We're playing their opening night on Hallowe'en, so it's a bit off a special event. Probably about a fiver on the door, and we think there's another band on too. See you there.
If you can't make that gig, we're playing The Wilmington in Clerkenwell the next day on November 1st.
And thhen we're going to try and play an acoustic gig. Just for fun like.
The Stanstead Abbotts Riverside Festival was a riot. Literally, we arrived as the police were bundling half our audience into the back of their vans. But there still about a 1,000 folks left, all getting annoyed as we turned up late to the stage. But we rocked their EastSide asses and left the stage in triumph. Mannie's extended drum solo was the secret weapon, we reckon, along with Bernadette and Demi batting their eyelashes at all the boys in the audience.
The next big gig is another festival, Hamswell - this time just outside Bath. Put 17th August in your diaries and get your tent ready for an epic weekend in the west country with The Fleas! Yay.
Also, you can now buy some of our songs on iTunes! Just look up 'The Fleas' and there you are.
