Description:
Professor David Nutt, the Chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs has been sacked. The council is an independent body that is supposed to advise the government on the application of the misuse of drugs act- how drugs should be classified and what penalties (if any) should be given out for their possession and supply.

Professor Nutt was sacked for his comments criticising the government for choosing to reclassify cannabis to class B, despite evidence that it should remain a class C... (read more)

Anthony BBC Radio 4's "The Report" given a justly hard time on this week's Feedback after taking a propagandist line on Prof. Nutt's sacking. The Series Editor Nicola Merrick compounding the error by attempting to defend it.

That is rubbish. I haven t heard the programme they are talking about but it sounds like they left in enough insinuation to make Dr Nutt sound dodgy. Merrick was clearly wrong when she attempts to claim that Dr Nutt is going beyond just putting the science out there. That is exactly what he has done, and got sacked for.

I posted it ("The Report" programme) earlier and it is still available on Listen Again.

Merrick was being slightly cleverer than you say but only reinforced that she was using propaganda in my mind because she took things Prof. Nutt said (very reasonable things too) in his "Audience" - AFTER being sacked - and used it to say that his sacking was probably justified.

It seemed like a deliberate attempt to muddy the water, smear Prof. Nutt and sounded distinctly politically motivated. One is instantly led to question what deal she may have struck to get something juicy for another programme.... See More

The reporter's tone and choice of words in the original programme were intended to smear Prof. Nutt throughout. Uninformed opinions were presented as experts while the expert was presented as partial.

Anthony What was that the government said about new, stronger strains of cannabis?

http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/boys-suspended-after-drugs-find-29945.aspx More and more teenagers getting suspended? //One, who did not want to be named, said it was shocking such young children were bringing drugs into school, while another said the boys should be permanently excluded.// I think drugs should be al...lowed for everyone including kids. The reason is that everyone to some degree will suffer. The more widely available of cannabis to everyone, then these behaviors will stop. This will send a message that cannabis is safe and teenagers will not act out.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8379542.stm //A total of 83% of police who were surveyed backed the use of on-the-spot fines for anyone caught with small amounts of cannabis.// Pathetic! This has become draconian, big-brother style UK. We are allowed to make our own choices. How boring would life be if there were... no drugs? We would suffer. Those who are anti-drugs have no fun, have no rational thought to even think drugs can be good for us, or beneficial. Drugs are part of everyday life and life is too short to be sober all the time. Stop these moralistic morons and be free. We should rebel and tell the world what the truth is - cannabis is safe. I think we have to do more than just sign a petition.
