Enough is enough, this disgraceful practise of rollkur must be outlawed by the FEI. It is time to shame the FEI and national dressage federations into action.

My email to the FEI:

My question is, when will the FEI take action to prevent this insidious and cruel method of training, nowadays termed 'rollkur'? The video below, showing Swedish rider, Patrick Kittel at the World Cup qualifier in Denmark, with the stallions tongue lolling out of his mouth, clearly blue from lack of blood supply, flaccid and lifeless, to my mind, sums up the stallion's own demeanour, no longer the proud, entire male, but resigned, defeated and deadened to all feeling,

Dressage USED to be an art form, and now, it is a licence to torture. Allowing this practise in warm up arenas, in full public view, gives credence to the belief that the FEI accepts the method. This means too, that less experienced spectators go home and try out rollkur on their own unfortunate animals, thinking that if it brings success to the top flight of trainers and competitors, so it must assist their own dressage scores.

I have never seen public feeling running so high having viewed this piece of film. Dressage needs to clean up it's act, because the grass roots public are extremely angry, and it is the grass roots riders whose subscriptions to their national dressage federations, form the largest source of income. Maybe, if the pockets of such organisations are suddenly affected, then action will be taken, but sad to think that it will be monetary influence, rather than equine welfare, that is likely to bring about change.

I sincerely hope that at last, the FEI may be forced to investigate this practise fully.

Yours truly,

Heather Moffett
