The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC), established in 1973, was one of the first rape crisis centers in the United States to advocate for and support survivors of sexual assault. First initiated as a grassroots, activist endeavor, the organization continues to be supported by over 100 BARCC volunteers annually. Volunteers provide hotline crisis counseling, adolescent and family services, support groups, medical support, legal advocacy and education to businesses, community groups, teen centers and schools.
