The Renewable Energy Fee is a proposed student fee of 50 cents per credit hour that will be used for renewable energy generation on campus and energy efficiency projects.
For only about $7 a semester for each student, UF can raise $650,000 per year for solar energy systems, waste-to-energy technology, and many other innovative projects that will help our campus to reduce its ecological impact and be a leader in clean energy.
23 other universities have successful renewable energy student fees, including UNC, Harvard, and the University of Tennessee.
In February of 2007, 78% of voting students approved the fee in a referendum election. Our next step is the UF administration and Board of Trustees, and then on to the Board of Governors and the state legislature.
