ICEMEN PRE-SEASON NEWS REPORT (October 14, 2009)
[Visit the fan forum for more about all of these items]

* The 2009-10 season is here! Friday home games have been moved up to 7 PM this season, and Saturday games will start at 7:45. There are also a couple of Wednesday games at 7, and a trio of Sunday games that will start at a time not yet determined. For the complete schedule with announced promotions, please visit the fan forum.

* The AAHL has absorbed the Midwest Hockey League, which was to be the original home of the IceMen before it had trouble getting off the ground. After failing to launch for the 2008-09 season, the MWHL hoped to get rolling for 2009-10. When that became unrealistic, the league agreed to "merge" with the AAHL.

* The AAHL has 6 teams for 2009-10. Returning from last season are the IceMen, Battle Creek Revolution, Chi-Town Shooters and Chicago Blaze. The Lapeer Thunder franchise, previously announced as an expansion team, relocated to suburban Detroit and changed its name to the Detroit Hitmen. And the Madison Ice Muskies joined via the MWHL merger.

* The IceMen have a new look this season. The organization let the fans pick the new logo, and subsequently unveiled new jersey designs.

* The IceMen have entered into an affiliation agreement with the IHL's Fort Wayne Komets. The Komets are the 8th-oldest professional hockey franchise in North America, and one of the most successful minor league teams in history. Fort Wayne has won the IHL's Turner Cup the past two seasons.

Older news items previously posted over the summer:

* The AAHA is now officially the AAHL - a "league" instead of an "association" of teams.

* The IceMen will host the 2009-10 AAHL All-Star Weekend on January 8-9, 2010. Friday will feature a skills competition, and Saturday will culminate with the first All-Star Game in AAHL history.

* The Evansville IceMen have been granted future franchise rights for the International Hockey League, which is a step up from the AAHL. The team likely won't change leagues until Evansville's new downtown arena is built (which probably won't be until the 2011-12 season). Plans will come into focus over time.
