The Delta (Development and Learning from Theory to Application) Center brings together a community of scientists with a shared commitment to interdisciplinary research on processes of development and learning. Our members seek to understand biological systems from neurons to neighborhoods, embracing the complexity that underlies the integration of brain, mind, body, physical environment, and larger-scale social systems. This enterprise is motivated by a desire to understand factors that modulate and shape development and learning - whether adaptive or maladaptive. Such understanding is central to the development of effective clinical interventions.
The members of the Delta Center seek to offer clear thinking about behavior, learning, and development that is informed by 21st century research. Rather than reaching for easy and simple answers, our members work to confront the complexity we see around us - to understand how multiple factors interweave and interrelate through time, and how stability and change emerge from these interactions.
The Delta Center was founded by faculty in the Departments of Psychology and Communication Science & Disorders at the University of Iowa.
