- Description:
- AMLISS aims to provide students at UNC Chapel Hill with the opportunity to explore art, museum and visual resources librarianship and records management. Through lectures, workshops, special events and visits to museum and art libraries, AMLISS will promote these areas of specialization within the field of library and information science and records management to any interested students.
The Art and Museum Library and Information Student Society (AMLISS) is being organized in order to provide students at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with the opportunity to explore the areas of art, museum and visual resources librarianship and records management. Through its programming, AMLISS will promote these areas within the field of library and information science and records management. AMLISS will be based out of the School of Information and Library Science but will be open to all interested graduate and undergraduate students at the university.
Our objectives are: · to introduce students to relatively unknown branches of librarianship · to encourage students to consider pursuing careers and research in the above named areas · to raise awareness about areas of librarianship and records management that are not covered in depth in any program at the university · to introduce members to local art, museum and visual resources librarians and records managers · to encourage patronage of local art and museum libraries · to provide students with opportunities for professional development and mentorship
In order to meet our objectives AMLISS plans to invite local art, museum and visual resources librarians to discuss their work and to promote their field. AMLISS will arrange groups to attend relevant special events at museums and libraries and professional conferences in order to facilitate contacts with professionals in the field.
The role of our faculty advisor, Dr. Cal Lee, is to guide us in efforts to program educational and inspirational activities for AMLISS members. Our advisor will also serve as a liaison and contact to the professionals working in art, museum and visual resources librarianship and records management. AMLISS does not discriminate in the admission and participation of members with regard to race, color, religion, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender.
