- Share the Health Cambodia is a non profit organization begun in 2008 by James Garcia, a Paramedic, and his wife Cara Garcia, a Registered Nurse.
While visiting Cambodia in April 2008 we were stunned by the total lack of basic medical care available to its citizens. We were overwhelmed by the easily treatable and curable diseases we saw killing the people. As medical professionals, we could not just ignore something we knew we could prevent and cure.
We have since returned to Cambodia and... (read more) - Privacy Type:

- We just wanted to let all of our friends know that our clinic is finally opened!! Through much hard work and the help of the Cambodian Government, we had our opening ceremony Friday, a Staff session Monday, and opened our clinic today.
Between 8 am and 5 pm Cara and I treated 68 patients, with everything from well baby checks, 240/150 Hypertension, post heart attack, to a serious Horsebite and a Motorcylce accident.
It was a great success, and have to thank our friend and Director Thach Vanna for all of his help getting here.
We still have a lot to fiugure out- there are quite a few shortcomings in our available supplies, medicines, and diagnostics. We are striving to provide Tetanus vaccines to every mother and child we see, because it still kills 10% of newborns here.
We still need your help and donations, if you can help us a little , to purchase many of the medicines we cannot obtain through the system. Like Hypertension medicine, and Immodium, and blood sugar test strips.
We have also been in contact with several groups and organizations eager to plan a medical mission. If you are in the medical profession (including dentistry, PT, RT, RN, LPN, EMT, MD, DO, or any other initials) and think you could tolerate the climate and spartan conditions, then please let us know. We can help work out a trip of any duration, with a personal invitation from the Cambodian Parliament.
If you have an opportunity, please talk to your Doctor or Civic group (Jaycees, Shriners, Rotary, Elks, etc.) and see if they would consider supporting our clinic. More than anything we still need transportation. It's rainy season, and sharing a moped won't cut it if we need to transfer a critical patient.
Thank you all for your support that got us where we are today- open!
You have all been wonderful, and 68 people were helped today thanks to your kindness.
James Garcia, Share the Health Cambodia
