The Society was formed by Jack Brockless, ratified at Society Standing on the 29th January 2008, and its first Annual General Meeting was held on the 1st February 2008. It attended its inaugural Inter Varsity on the 18th October 2008, at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
The Surrey Debating Society in May 2008 became a proud arm of the Surrey Union, and is currently presided over by Oliver Deed.
