We support a small government, upholding the constitution, and a less intrusive international policy. Cutting taxes and reducing spending are the most important issues in our local government. We also support free trade and a conservative fiscal policy, and issues like a reorganization of tax law/the abolishment of the IRS, the Read the Bills Act, and ending intrusive laws about moral decisions. We supported Ron Paul's presidental bid in 2008, and Bob Barr is our candidate of choice this November. With the help of organizations like Gulf Coast Libertarians, our small group makes a big impact on campus.
The group was started by Angela Wise and Ellen Ritcher in 2003, who graduated in 2007. Our faculty sponsor is Dr T Cliff Morgan.
Mhair Dekmezian, one of the former presidents, ran for State Representative in the Houston area in November 2006. Alice Townes, his co-president, is more of a libertarian by philosophy and does not directly associate herself with the party. She has joined forces with David Splinter, a Graduate Student with the Economics Department. Together, they conduct small meetings of like-minded individuals for discussion and venting. Some small events may also be sponsored by Rice Libertarians on occasion.
Make sure you email us to get on the listserv if you want to be notified about meetings!
