Established in 1993, the Rutgers Capoeira Club is one of the first collegiate capoeira clubs run by students in the Northeast. Founded by Mestre Cigano of Grupo Liberdade de Capoeira, our classes are currently led by Professor Maranhão who brings us this beautiful and poetic martial art from its traditional Afro-Brazilian roots. We practice a contemporary style of capoeira, inclusive of both "Angola" and "Regional" styles and are also immersed in Afro-Brazilian culture through traditional songs as well as dances such as Samba de Roda and Maculele.
To any Rutgers student, faculty or staff member who would like try out our practices:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-11pm
College Ave. Gym Upper Deck
Everyone is welcome to also practice outside Rutgers:
Mondays 6:30-8:30pm

Wednesdays and Fridays 8:30-10:00pm
