Description:
Chess Dawgs is the official UGA Chess Club dedicated to promoting the matching of wits in relaxed social gatherings, as well as in competitive tournaments.

Meetings are every Mondays and Thusday 7-10 in the Tate student center lobby. Meetings are casual and players of all strengths are welcome. We will also play games other than chess if there is interest (recently we've had people play Risk, Go, and Set). Dont be shy, look for the chess boards, come up, and introduce yourself.

News:
Hello fellow Chess Dawgs,
I hope everyone had a great break. Here are some important upcoming events for the next two weeks:

Monday 1/12/09: First club meeting from 7-10pm at Tate
Thursday 1/15/09: Second club meeting from 7-10pm at Tate
Saturday 1/17/09: Gator Chess club tournament 10am at UF in Gainesville FL
Mod,Wed 1/19/09, 1/21/09: Tournament at the Globe, a bar in downtown Athens

I know this news is really late notice, but we will be having our first chess meeting of the semester today in Tate from 7-10, just as we have in the past. If you're free tonight and this e-mail reaches you in time please stop by.

In case this news did not reach you in time or you can't make it today, please stop by on thursday. We are thinking about making the meeting schedule for the rest of the year Monday/Thursday rather than Monday/Wednesday as it has been in the past. Please let me know what you think about this. If I get primarily negative feedback about this than we will go back to Monday/Wednesday.

The chess tournament at the globe is going to be monday and wednesday january 19 and 21. The monday tournament is for amateurs, those with a max rating of 1000 or so, and the wednesday one is for more experienced players. It's probably fine if some people would like to play in both. Both tournaments are from approximately 6-11 each day. Five games guaranteed. Five dollar entry fee. Cash prize. There's a sign up sheet at the globe right now.

And as a side note I thought I would inform you all of the tournament the Florida Gators are holding this weekend. It is a good chance to get some experience, but its a fairly long drive from here to Gainseville. Details can be found at their website: "www.gatorchessclub.com"

Please feel free to e-mail me at Pabritzo@uga.edu. I hope to see you all at our meetings this week. Come Play Chess!
