The Iowa State Space Society is a GSB funded campus organization whose intention is to educate students about space related topics, through events, speakers, and projects. The projects we run currently fall under two categories, rockets and astronomy.
We plan on having Stargazing approximately every 2 weeks this semester. The ISSS owns two tellescopes, one with a 8" mirror and one with a 10" mirror. We also have a cool green laser pointer to point out stars.
The ISSS is a chapter of SEDS (students for the exploration and discovery of space), which is a national organization with many links into the leading companies of the space industry.
Current ISSS projects:
-Rockets
-EX gasoline powered rocket (+6000ft)
-level one solid propelled rocket (+2000ft)
-UMR Dart Competition rocket (+23,000ft)
- USLI Competition rocket (+5280ft)
-Telescopes
-Planning for future larger telescope.
