From stem cell research to hurricane recovery to worker rights and benefits, the UM Ethics Society has a decade-long track record in stimulating discussion and debate.
We endeavor to spread understanding of ethics and critical thinking throughout society – in law, medicine, politics, business, information technology and all other aspects of life. We will delve into these issues through special programs, panel discussions and collaborations with other groups.
In addition, the Ethics Debate unit of the Ethics Society allows students to augment their studies of the discipline through discussion and argument in a competitive setting. In addition to training members for two University-wide competitions during the year, Ethics Debate will also hold intra-club contests in which Society members can participate.
In the past couple of years we have accumulated many impressive wins! We are pleased to boast about:
First Place, 2007 National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl
Second Place, 2008 and 2009 National Bioethics Bowl Competitions
Third Place, 2008 Mid-Atlantic Regional Ethics Bowl
Third Place, 2009 National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl
We are very proud of these accomplishments and of all the Society members who worked to bring them to fruition. Thanks very much to all as we look forward to many more accomplishments in the future.
