Welcome to the Japanese Culture in Kentucky Society (JCiKS) Club! We are an officially sanctioned club of the University of Kentucky. We are sponsored by the Japan Studies program under the Department of Russian and Eastern Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences. We also work together with the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program here at UK.
Here at JCiKS, we promote international awareness between two cultures: Japanese and Kentuckian. At first glance, they share little in common, but the truth is a lot is shared between the two.
JCiKS has various activities. There are biweekly group meetings, weekly Japanese tutoring/practice sessions, and monthly cultural activities. Each activity aims to spread the community and compainionship of Japanese culutre and American culture in Kentucky.
Membership is open to any interested person affiliated with the University of Kentucky. Non-affiliated persons are able to have honarary memberships, so don't be shy!
Past activities have included Onigiri Parties, Karaoke Trips, Tailgating, Going to Japanese Grocers and Restaurants, Halloween Costume Party, Thanksgiving Potluck, and Golden Week celebrations.
