Bobby Kennedy has been overshadowed in American history by his brother, President John F. Kennedy. However, it was Bobby who was behind many of the domestic initiatives regarding civil rights in the Kennedy Administration. Also, after his Brother's death, Bobby went on to become a Senator from New York in 1964, and then made his own Presidential bid in 1968. After pushing the pro-war President Lyndon Johnson out of the race, Bobby encountered success in the primaries. He was, however, assassinated on June 4, 1968.
Although he was painted as being ruthless by the media of his time, those closest to Bobby respected him, loved him, and routinely described him as compassionate and caring. Minorities and the disnefranchised loved him and saw a hope in him that was absent from most other white American leaders. Had Martin Luther King, Jr. lived, and had Bobby lived, it is clear that King would have endorsed Bobby for President. He represented those that don't typically get represented and he used his wealth, influence, charisma, and intelligence to raise a voice for those who usually can only muster up a whimper.
This group is dedicated to rekindling the memory of Bobby Kennedy. Like all humans, Bobby was flawed. He had his faults, so this group is not meant to romanticize nor worship RFK. Throughout history, however, there have been individuals who have lived lives that were greater than themselves. They live lives that alter the world around them, and make life better for those who need it most. Ghandi is one of these figures. MLK is one of these figures. Had he continued to live, Bobby would have been one of these figures. This group is dedicated to carrying the inspiration that he gave in the 60s into a new millenium, and pick up, relight, and push forth the torch that fell from Bobby's hands in June of 1968.
