After 9/11, Americans everywhere awakened to the reality of international terrorism. Yet America is not alone in this War on Terrorism. The same groups that threaten America also threaten our allies. We have seen this in Bali, Madrid, London, Istanbul, Amman, Mumbai (Bombay), Hyderabad, Algiers, Jaipur, & Ahmedabad. And for decades, we have seen it in Israel. Terrorists have bombed cafes, sent gunman into schools, and launched rockets, missiles, and mortars at civilian communities. They build their bunkers under schools and launch their missiles from populated villages. And when the Israeli army comes out to fight them they hide behind civilians.
Peace is always best. That's why Israel signed peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan. Sadly, however, Israeli peace offers have all-too-often been met with rejection and terrorism against Israeli citizens. Israel has gone to the table and made difficult concessions for peace. Israel has ceded all of the Gaza Strip, and much of the West Bank, Israel has released prisoners, Israel has provided humanitarian assistance, and has donated millions of dollars to the Palestinian Authority.
Sadly, this has not led to peace. After Israel's withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, Hamas seized power. With the support of its backers in Tehran and Damascus, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad have bombarded the town of Sderot and other neighboring areas of Israel with thousands of rockets and mortars. These attacks have expanded since Hamas acquired Iranian-designed Grad missiles and other rocket and missile designs. These have furthered their range, threatening the Israeli cities of Ashkelon, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, and Beersheva.
According to the Almagor Terror Victims Association, at least fourteen of the major terrorist attacks since 2001 were committed by persons arrested for terrorism and terrorism-related activities that were released to promote good will.
We, the members of this group, want Israel to live in peace & security. When Israel fights to defend its people we will stand by them and when Israel is able to negotiate for peace we will stand by them.
