Oren Gabriel Should Pay For His Own Legal Fees

Description:
There is indeed something rotten in the ASUC. Our so-called representatives are attemmpting to use $22,679 of our mandatory fees to pay President Oren Gabriel's personal legal bills incurred suing the ASUC. Maybe it's time for us to start holding the ASUC accountable.

WE HAVE STOPPED THE ASUC FROM PAYING OREN GABRIEL'S LEGAL FEES (for now)!!!

LATEST (10/23/06): SB51, which would have given funds to the Executives, was amended today to remove that provision, because there was no longer enough support in the Senate to pass it. As a result, SB51 will likely pass without any payment to Oren Gabriel and the rest of the Executives. This is just a reminder of how important it is for the student body to remain involved with their student government, as the pressure we put in letting our representatives know how we felt about this bill has convinced them to protect the general student body interest.

This doesn't mean things are over. There may be future attempts to get this money to the Executives, so we will need to continue to be vigilant.

(10/19/06): The Student Action Executive Slate will now by trying to pull money from the ASUC Auxiliary to pay for its legal bills. The Auxiliary works as the "adult" branch on behalf of the ASUC in giving space rentals to outside groups and operates the Office of Student Affairs to ensure group compliance. Taking money from them is the same as taking money from you! Remember, it's the Student Action Executive Slate that spent $22,679 appealing a Judicial Council Suit, not the ASUC.

This is merely the latest in a long line of corrupt acts by the current ASUC leadership, including lying to the ASUC, falsifying evidence, denying access to ASUC records, refusing to answer questions about ASUC activities, and declaring itself the winner of the election by Executive Order.

Something must be done to prevent this injustice and future problems.
