- The severe, ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of northern Sudan is one that has been largely ignored worldwide. For about three and a half years, people and governments worldwide have watched in silence as the death has increased steadily. Only now, once the offical estimated death toll has surpassed 400,000 and over 2.5 million people have been displaced, have organizations and people opened their mouths and voiced concern over the conflict. However, Darfur is still plagued by the inaction of all those people who have become informed and yet chosen to do nothing. It is one thing to learn about the conflict, but it is a totally different thing to actually take action against it. Together, we must take the steps towards stopping the government-supported genocide in Sudan, and we must take them now. We have watched in silence for far too long; we must learn about Darfur, we must teach others about Darfur, we must do everything that we can to stop the genocide, and we must do it now. If we simply watch and do nothing, then we all have the blood on our hands.

To take action:
#1: INFORM OTHERS:
This cannot be stressed enough. Share you knowledge of the Darfur genocide, even if it is basic. Invite others to this group, share the links, tell you parents, teacher,s freinds, coworkers, strangers on teh street. Create flyers and hand them out, hold a meeting at your local coffee shop. The first thing to do is be the voice for the millions of people suffering in Darfur without a voice. Visit the link below to learn constructive methods for creating awareness among others:

#2: Write to and meet with Representatives and Senators:
Send letters to your representatives urging them to do something about Darfur, or make plans to meet with them. This is extremely important to do since these are the people who will decide which sort of action the American government takes in helping to stop the genocide, and as the leading nation of the world, this will have extremely important implications and results worldwide.

#4: Host an event:
Create your own charity event to benefit the efforts in raising awareness and lobbying representatives to make a change in Darfur, or attend a local one. Make sure you find a good charity to donate the proceeds to; Save Darfur, as mentioned below, is one that I find to be honest, respecatable, and trustworthy.

#5: Give money to an organization:
The only one I have researched enough to recommend is Save Darfur, but if you find another you trust, then do that. Simply make sure you research where your money actually goes, and make sure the organization is non-profit.

The Save Darfur Coalition:
You may have noticed that almost all of the above links send you to one of the Save Darfur webpages. The Save Darfur Coalition is an alliance of over 170 different "faith-based, advocacy and humanitarian organizations", all dedicated to the same cause of creating as much awareness of the Darfur conflict as possible, pressuring representatives and people worldwide to take action against the atrocities of the first genocide of the 21st century. It is an organization which I am informed about, trust, and think actually does make a difference, which is why I have used it as my main guide for this group.
