Want to campaign against poverty and go to gigs and events for free at the same time?
Oxfam Outreach aims to increase awareness of Oxfam’s campaigns and encourage people in the area to become more involved in the fight against global poverty. We attend a range of local events and as an outreacher you will have the opportunity to attend these events with other volunteers. An outreacher’s role is to engage with the public to raise awareness about whatever campaign we are focusing on at that event. This involves asking people to sign action cards or petitions urging government to take action e.g. to make trade fair or to control arms. Free tickets to the gigs are provided and travel expenses to and from the gig can also be covered.
So far we have campaigned at Snow Patrol, Embrace, Richard Ashcroft, BellX1, the Kaiser Chiefs, Just Jack, Damien Rice, New Young Pony Club, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Cooper Temple Clause, Corinne Bailey Rae and Klaxons gigs, as well as the Newcastle Mela, CAAT public meeting, the Green Festival and the Ouseburn Festival.
If you like the sound of what we do and want to join then please visit our website on www.oxfam.org.uk/outreach and go to the Outreach North East section and sign up there.
N.B. Outreach North East is based in Newcastle, but there are also outreach programmes in London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Scotland.
