First Book is an international non-profit organization with a simple mission:

To give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books.

Since 1992, First Book has provided over 43 million new books to children in need in over 3,000 communities nationwide. I am in the process of establishing a First Book chapter here on campus to provide kids here in our community with brand-new books, and would like to invite you to become a volunteer member of the organization.
First Book works with volunteer-driven Advisory Boards to provide existing community-based literacy programs with grants of brand-new books. All books distributed by First Book are brand new and are free to the child and the program. The books are chosen by program leaders working directly with the children, incorporated into program lessons, and given to the children to take home and keep. Our First Book Advisory Board on campus will be working to identify potential programs in the community that need books and will provide them with book grants.
