The Gator Homeless Coalition is a group of students dedicated to changing the nature of UF’s relationship to its surrounding community, particularly Gainesville’s most victimized and vulnerable citizens: the homeless. Primarily, we are working towards creating a student-run homeless shelter at UF. We are currently requesting the administration allocate some of it's $2 billion in resources to fund . This will allow students to put what they are learning into practice and serve as an avenue for community service. It will also "give back" to the community of Gainesville for gentrifying the area, driving out local businesses, and polluting the local ecosystem. It's time we recognized our part in making Gainesville the poorest out of all the cities with top public universities. (read less)
