Ethnic Diversity Grants Available Now
Apply now for a Diversity Enhancement Grant from the NATA Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee and get up to $7,500 for your athletic training program.
Grants are awarded in three categories, all focused on helping develop an ethnically diverse professional population and improving health care for ethnically diverse patients. Grant deadlines are Dec. 1, April 1 and Aug. 1.

Fair Practice Lawsuit Reaches Tentative Settlement
Subject to approval from each association’s Board of Directors, NATA and the APTA have reached agreement in principle to resolve all matters in dispute between them in the antitrust lawsuit NATA brought against the APTA in early 2008. The agreement was reached after representatives from NATA and the APTA held productive settlement discussions in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 30-31. NATA was represented by President Marje Albohm, Executive Director Eve Becker-Doyle and legal counsel Paul Genender of K&L Gates LLP. Further details will be announced as available. The compelling speeches by Mark Smaha and Bobby Barton at the 2009 Annual Meeting & Symposia are now available for sale for $15 through the NATA Web site. Smaha and Barton recounted their roles during the aftermath of Marshall University’s tragedy in 1970. A plane carrying the football team, staff and coaches crashed shortly before it was scheduled to land in Huntington, W.V., killing all passengers. The NATA Hall of Famers also offered advice to athletic trainers who might be forced to deal with tragedy in their careers and personal lives. Their speeches and the 2009 Hall of Fame induction ceremony are included on the same disc.
