AA&F is student organization at the University of Illinois that is dedicated to promoting the natural, rational, and scientific explanation of the universe and our place in it.
The purpose of this group is fourfold. We aim to:
1) Establish a supportive social network for the secular student community at UIUC.
Nontheistic students come from a wide variety of political and philosophical backgrounds, but generally describe themselves as one or more of the following:
Atheists
Agnostics
Freethinkers
Secular Humanists
Skeptics
Rationalists
Naturalists
Brights
Pastafarians
Ignostics
2) To enrich this campus by sponsoring educational events, inviting engaging speakers, volunteering, and fostering constructive student dialogue on important social, political, scientific, and religious issues.
3) To counter the rise of pseudoscience, superstition, and belief in the paranormal - which we find to be a devise, dangerous, and disturbing movement in this country.
4) To raise public awareness about the misconceptions, stereotyping, and discrimination of nonbelievers, while at the same time always promoting tolerance and understanding of different viewpoints.
Why bother?
At last count, there are no less than 57 student groups for various religious denominations on this campus, but nary a single one for students with secular viewpoints. This group was founded to fill that void.
Stand up and be counted.
