Don't you hate it when you sign up for a class that SHOULD be really interesting, and it becomes your worst nightmare because your professor lectures the entire hour and a half of class?
Some professors need to realize that we live in the 21st Century.
We grew up with computers, video games, and cable television. We have short attention spans.
Ways professors can take advantage of technology:
- Post syllabus online.
- Use Powerpoint presentations during lecture.
- Make notes available online, preferrably before class.
- Use video clips and music.
- Let us post essays and assignments on Blackboard instead of making us wake up to your 8 AM class just to turn it in.
- Post important readings online as well as have hard copy versions available so students have a choice on how they want to read course material.
DON'T LECTURE NON-STOP FOR AN HOUR, especially in a class of 400+ people.
I once had a 68 year old professor who had the best powerpoint slides ever (because he had entertaining pictures and sound clips), showed us tons of short video examples, tap danced for us, and showed us a video of himself sky-diving for his 60th birthday. AND WE ACTUALLY LEARNED!
There's no excuse! Use technology in your classes!
